What is all this hype about Obama not being American?

Okay, I have heard rumors that it can't be proven by a legalized birth certificate that Obama was even born in the United States. Whats the story behind this? All that can supposedly be proven is born "possible in the US." Please, some enlightenment. If this is true...then by all means...they the HECK was he allowed to run???
